Of all the stories, examples, and words of Jesus Christ few are as powerful as when He answered the question; "Who is my neighbor?" (Luke 10) In the story of the good Samaritan, Jesus gave a picture of Himself, His mission and all who would reflect Him. The good Samaritan story paints the picture of a man who had been bruised, robbed, and taken advantaged of. This man represents each of us. The rescuer is the story of Jesus. He left all of heaven to come and rescue us. He offers healing for our wounds and His robe of righteousness for our sins. He offers the Bread of Life to satisfy our hunger and sustain us. And He offers us an abundant life that begins here and now.
The story of the good Samaritan concludes with these powerful words; "Go and do likewise." As we connect with neighbors (all we come into contact with) it is our desire to be living examples of Christ concluding words, "Go and do likewise."
